Hello Twinkle.
Sucks when you think you have gold, but don't.
Cool coin though...

Quick search revealed this:http://cgi.ebay.com/Isle-of-Man-1990...QQcmdZViewItem

http://www.govmint.com/countrylistin...nnyblkblu.aspx

....hell, maybe yours is gold, what do I know?
Have fun, and welcome!

hmm... meth addicts stealing from meth addicts... i love how they say "i recently came across this coin"... in that case, we should assume it is stolen, right?

If the coin were gold...it would say so on the coin.
If the coin were silver.....it would say so on the coin.

If it says neither, you are SOL. Sorry.

Heh, I couldn't do that because I thought it was a silver coin from the Washington mint.

The Pobjoy mint dosnt even have it listed.

When I have a coin that may/or may not be anything....I bring it to my trusted local metals guy. One glance, all it takes.
Good luck .

Are you sure of the dimensions? Your coin would have to be .999 because the weight is spot on 1 troy oz; .92 coins weigh another couple of grams. If you are right about the dimensions, the coin is too big by far to be just 1 troy oz of .999.

Check out this website, it gives the dimensions and weights of the major coins. Yours isn't listed but coins of all sizes and purities are. Notice that your coin is very dimensionally similar to a Mexican 50 Peso piece. But a 50 Peso is 1.2 troy oz of .900 gold. A similar Isle of Manx coin, a 1 oz .999 Cat, has a similar thickness, at 2.6 mm, but it is much smaller in diameter at 32.7 mm. Your coin can't be the size you state, be .999 gold and weigh 31.1 grams on the nose. Something is off. Check the dimensions again.

http://www.onlygold.com/TutorialPage...eenVersion.htm

If your dimensions are correct and the coin is .999 and using the cat as a reference, your coin would weigh 31.1*(38.5/32.7)^2*2.5/2.6= 41.45 grams= 1.33 troy oz.

I will say one thing for sure, that is a beautiful coin.

Re: manx 1990 penny black gold coin

A SPECTACULAR 1990 ONE CROWN COIN FROM THE ISLE OF MAN.

IT IS MADE OF FINE GOLD AND IS BLACKENED IN THE CENTRE TO HILIGHT THE PENNY BLACK WHICH IT IS COMMEMORATING.

THIS HAS TO BE ONE OF THE MOST SPECTACULAR LARGE GOLD COINS THAT I HAVE EVER SEEN.

THERE IS A VERY SMALL ISSUE (JUST 1000 ESTIMATED BY THE WORLD COIN CATALOGUE), MAKING THIS A VERY SCARCE COIN.

IT WEIGHS APPROXIMATELY 31 GRAMS AND IS 38.5MM DIAMETER.

ON TODAYS (8TH may) PRICE IT HAS APPROXIMATELY 337 WORTH OF GOLD IN IT. THIS COIN WILL APPEAL TO THE INVESTOR AND COLLECTOR ALIKE.

IT IS IN UNCIRCULATED CONDITION
this info came from i-o-m treasury,so it looks a damn good investment, only ONE THOUSAND struck, thanks for all replies, twinkle
